High heels
a dress
actually wearing makeup and perfume
and blow-drying my hair.
sea bass
a whole bottle of French wine
beignets for dessert
ADULT conversation
no interruptions
holding hands
not talking about the babies quite
as much as we thought we would
inside jokes
giggling...
having him tell me
how proud of me he is,
and how much he loves me
and only having to sneak
off to the bathroom so i could cry
once. (which has to be a record for me,
usually it would be ten times or so,hehe)
treasuring this last day together,
memorizing the way he looks, smell and sounds...
please note the puffy face and squinty eyes
from lack of sleep (thanks sadie) and crying.
but i did my hair and makeup and that's what counts yay!!
knowing in a little over 24 hours
i'll be missing him terribly.
Just another faithful blog reader here, with tears streaming down my face! I have never met you, but admire your work and love the way you tell your stories. My heart is with you today and I will think of you and your girls every day that your husband is away. What he is doing is amazing, but what you are doing is no less heroic. Thanks to you both! (Those words seem so inadequate right now.) God bless you and keep you all safe until you are together again. Now, take a deep breath, and just do what you need to do for your family, one day at time. Just think, you are already almost one day closer to having him home. Hang in there, you are NOT alone!

My heart breaks for you all the time, Stephanie. I am so sorry you have to let your man go. Please tell him to take our hope and gratitude with him to Afghanistan. Much love to you and your babies, too.

Now you've got me crying. Your journaling is so special here. Hugs to you, and I hope he comes back safe and sound and that you have the strength to get through this difficult time and that the time flies by quickly.
