I can tell I'm about to get sick. Tired, slightly achy, snotty nose.
Shoot. I can NOT get sick.
Anyone have any tricks? I have Zicam.
I hate hate hate being sick. And I really cannot afford to be sick this year.
I'm sure the children would respond well to me laying on the couch and ignoring them.
Heee!!
So Sadie said "uh oh" last week.
That should tell you what I say all the time. I figured her first word would either be "no no" or "uh oh". Or "maniac" or "trouble".
It was such a bittersweet feeling hearing her little voice.
It made my heart swell, but it also made my heart break a little bit.
I hate that her daddy has to miss this.
And of course she won't say it when she calls. She just licks the phone
and breathes really loud.
Hmm. I kind of got a pervy phone call like that once when I was in college, but we won't go into that here.
One more sneak for you:
and I'm off to swab my nostrils with Zicam.
Good times.
Have a wonderful day.
xo

I swear by Emergen-C (tangerine flavor). It's a vitamin C supplement. It works wonders! I can find in in the natural foods section of my grocery store. Hope you feel better soon!
Posted by: Marty | 11/18/2008 at 11:33 AM
NO tricks here, but I do hope you don't get sick!! Maybe vitamin C??
Can't wait to see you layouts...such torture!
Posted by: kim strother | 11/18/2008 at 11:35 AM
Stick with the Zicam; it's saved my tush more than once. My sister is a fan of Emergen-C, like Marty suggested. I hope you feel better; there's nothing worse than taking care of kids when you're sick. Get some rest when you can!
Posted by: Carrie | 11/18/2008 at 11:45 AM
your sneak looks beautiful! Make sure you take good care of yourself so you can keep up with those pretty little girls of yours.
Posted by: Mye | 11/18/2008 at 11:45 AM
Swab away my dear! Here's praying it goes away or is very mild. And if it kicks you in the butt, rent some kids movies, and have them crawl in bed with you while you all watch - I did that with my son and called it "camping." He loved it at 18 months old. And call grandma for help - if you can. The sneak is very inspiring by the way!

whenever i feel sick coming on, i pop some vitamin c pills, some OJ, some regular women a day vitamins, drink tons of water, and NAP!
rest when the girls do! that should HELP!

gargle with half-strength peroxide...equal parts water and peroxide. tastes NASTY...have somehting handy ready to wash away the flavor, lol...but if you catch it early it will definitely work.

Feel better girlie...sick is no fun says the mama with a sick boy home from school today. sigh.

Ugh, I just got over being sick...fever, aches, super sore throat, headache, congestion, the whole shebang. Not good timing since my 4 yr old just broke his leg. Anyway, I used Dayquil cold & flu and it seemed to work well. Didn't take everything away but made it more tolerable.
Posted by: Michelle W. | 11/18/2008 at 12:42 PM
hope you're feeling better soon! i know what you mean, i can always tell, too. do you have those vitamin c tablets that dissolve in water that was invented by a teacher? oh, what are those called...well, those work for me. and hot tea.
Posted by: erin | 11/18/2008 at 02:25 PM
eewwwies! (picturing the nose swab!!!)
lovin the sneakies!
tea, lemon, honey - as must rest as possible. Spicy peppers too!

Oh run to Target and get some Emergen-C, too! And if you DO get sick, just ship those girls Priority to me and I'll keep 'em busy til you're better :)
Posted by: Lisa Dickinson | 11/18/2008 at 02:57 PM
Hi, I dislike be sick as well but what work for me is 1000mg of vitamin C with rose hips. It seems to shorten the length of my cold every time.
I hope you start to feel better!
Posted by: Christine Drevo | 11/18/2008 at 03:16 PM
So sorry that you may start a cold... my tips : drink a lot of water, orange juice, chicken noodle soup... (there is something in the chicken stock that can help you but i really don't know what it is !!! Here in Canada we have a drink called Neo Citran, but I don't know if you can have it in USA. I think it's a mix of citrus juice, sugar, honey, and acetaminophen. and a lot of rest...
hope your feeling good soon...
good luck !

Vitamin C and chicken soup. Believe it or not I've been to medical conference and studies have been done and proved that chicken soup does work!! I guess my mom was right. It has to be made with chicken broth.....that is the key(beef or other stock doesn't work). Hope you are feeling better soon! Rita
Posted by: Rita | 11/18/2008 at 03:18 PM
heehee!
you crack me up!
kind of changes the meaning of "dirty phone call" when she starts licking the phone.
oh, and no cold remedies here...sorry to say we've been fighting it for almost 3 weeks and haven't been able to kick it yet...ugh!

Love the sneaks, can't wait to see the LOs!
Hope you feel better, it's tough chasing after two kids when you're sick!

Hi! So, I don't have anything to take to keep the cold at bay, but in case you DO get sick...my husband and I usually start taking "Allerclear" (Costco brand of allergy medicine) when we get sick, and then take Advil for all the other aches and pains. The allergy medicine seems to make the cold milder, with less snot and nasal drip and stuff.
Good luck!
Posted by: Christina Ankeney | 11/18/2008 at 03:44 PM
I hope that illness doesn't fully develop! Keep taking Zicam and that should help. Hot lemonade with honey helps, too.
Beautiful peek...you have piqued my curiosity for the full reveal for sure!
Posted by: Denise | 11/18/2008 at 03:57 PM
Oh man I read the title of this post from a distance and I thought it said... well, something else LOL.
It doesn't sound like you can avoid getting sick but I've found that REST is the key, lie down, close your eyes whenever you get the chance. Lots of water. And I find that Codral Cold and Flu tablets make me feel a bit human again (or at least get me through to the afternoon!)
LOVING the sneaks!! Can't wait to see the whole layouts!

Another vote for Emergen-C here.
Hubs & I live on that stuff.
We like the Cranberry & Tangerine flavors.
And.
LOVE your peek!

My doctor always tells me to take at least 1,000 mgs of vitamin C when I get sick. Also lots of hot beverages, tends to clean out the head! Yuck so sorry you are feeling sick! I was just paging through my Scrapbook Trends and there are some of your beautiful creations! They are stunning. Love your sneak! Sending postive, no getting sick thoughts your way! Happy Tuesday!

Hey Stephanie...
You are so often inspiration for pages I scrap... just wanted to share one with you... I stole your "we made her" idea and made it my own. I also used your tips on cropping my pages on Iphoto (thanks a million!)... here's the link. http://bartonbabyblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/scrapbooking-heaven.html
My least favorite pages are the first ones, everyone I ask seems to think my paisley pages are the cutest, but I ADORE the last one. Thanks for looking! (: Thanks for the inspiration! (: -Danielle

Bummer, Steph, I;m getting sick too. After two weeks of being coughed on, how can I not. Atleast you can take something!! Drink lots of tea too, it helps and load up on the vitamin C.
Feel better, I love the pics of sadie and harper in the earlier post, Harper looks like a grown up girl!

Hi Steph! Ohhh, sure hope you are feeling better soon!!! I've felt a doozy of a head cold coming on for a couple of days now, I;m cozy in my thick flannel jammies, have the fireplace cranked and am still shivering! Up here in the north today, it is very windy! Anyway, get well soon! Also, cannot wait to see the sneak peek, it looks like something from October Afternoon???? I am sooo waiting for my online supplier to get the good stuff collection, but in Canada, everything takes forever!!!

tea with honey and lemon works wonders and my hubby swears by vicks....under his nose and behind is ears....i always tease him and tell him he smells like an old man. he usually wakes up the next morning feeling much better....guess it's worth the smell!
Posted by: Karen | 11/18/2008 at 07:12 PM
UGH! getting the sickies sucks! I always go with zicam too, but I get the stuff to mix with tea instead of the nasal swabs. Usually works a charm for me.
Love all your Dec SC sneaks!

I so hope you don't get sick. I can totally understand how hard it is when you're by yourself. My DH just got back from 15 months in Iraq and when he left our sons were 6 weeks and 3 years old. Every time I felt myself feeling the way you are I took Cold FX. It's kind of expensive but works. My mom sent it to me from Canada but I see on their website they sell it at Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid, Eckerd, etc. It works every time and I don't get a cold (or at least a full blown one).
My son also used to do the heavy breathing into the phone. DH missed his first everything so I took lots of photos and videos. When he returned home for good my son didn't even know who he was. He thought "Daddy" was the telephone so he was a little confused that he was a real person! Funny, yet sad.

It looks like everyone has given you all my tricks zicam, 1000 mg of vitamin C per day and as soon as those lil chicks have their eyes closed put yourself to bed and ask for help from friends or family. This all comes from being a single mom for over 10 years. I remember watching Anne of Green Gables on PBS one weekend because I had the flu so bad with my wee one we spent the entire weekend in our jammies in bed it is one of those bitter sweet memories.

Hi Stephanie, found you thru Jennifer McGuire's blog. My husband & I both have been sick for weeks now and my 20y.o. son has been taking Airborne 2 to 3 times a day and taking 1000mg of Vitamin C 3 times a day also. And lotz of water and praise the Lord, he hasn't gotten sick. Also passed that same info on to the girls in the office with my hubby, cuz he and the boss has it and she started taking the above and so far hasn't gotten it either. She was feeling like you are when she started taking it and still no other stuff has jumped on her. Oh and to keep the children from getting it, SPRAY LYSOL EVERYWHERE AND OFTEN! Hope that helps, off to check out your blog now. Hope your feeling better soon.

Steph, once ahain your sneaks are AMAZING! Tell me, where did you get the simple scallop punch? I think you used one to make layers of scallops in one of your sneaks - I have checked Fiskars and Martha Stewart and neither have it.
DEFINITELY drink water, tea, and oj as much as possible today! Pump your body full of liquids. When I was teaching, this is what I would do when I felt a cold coming on. Also, take a bit of Tylenol to ease achiness. Chicken soup and Jell-o too my friend! *hugs* I hope you feel better soon!

Aww...soup tea with honey Feel better! Grace
Posted by: Grace | 11/19/2008 at 08:26 AM
I think Airborne is similar to other high vita c stuff. I love the taste and the minute you feel icky...scratchy throat or headache...start taking every four hours. My hubby and I were skeptics and now we ALWAYS have it on hand! You drop the tablet in a tiny amount of water and let it fizz like alkaseltzer (but tastes much better). We like the grapefruit flavor. If you don't take right away I think it lessens severity of the cold...you also need lots of rest! HA! With two babes...I always laughed at my dr. when he told me this..duh! haha! Praying for you to feel better soon;0)

thanks for the laugh about the perv call I really needed that today. I have no tricks about getting well but praying that you will stay strong and healthy.

Stephanie..
So sorry to hear you are sick. I know this remedy sounds a little weird, but it works. Get a big jug of gatorade, and drink it while you run/jog, then take a hot hot bath. Basically, it's sweating it out. It works well for me, although I really have to work up the energy to work out when I feel like crap, it works well to get rid of yuckiness.
Wishing you nothing but healthy days.
Posted by: Holly H. | 11/19/2008 at 11:11 AM
I was using the Vitamin Supplement which is called: Emergen-C. It works really fast but do not take it alot because it can cause kidney stones. I ended up in the hospital with kidney stones because I was useing that stuff too much for the energy it gives. So just take it a couple days to get the boost to get better quicker. May God help you get well quick. Amen

Homemade hot lemon is my go to cure. Take four lemons and cut each one up into quarters. Add one lemon to 1 pint of water or less if you like it strong. Blitz in a blender for a count of 10 no longer. Pour into a sieve, strain and add two - three tablespoons of sugar per pint. Bring to the boil and then adjust the sugar level to personal taste. It is really good with some honey in the cup to. Hope you feel better soon, nothing worse than knowing you are the last frontier with two little one to care for.
Posted by: Helen Shields | 11/19/2008 at 02:09 PM
Okay, i'm with you!
I hate being sick and I got my first cold last week. BUT it didn't last the full 10 days.
Take Emergen-C. That stuff is the bomb!
& Airborne....and swab those nostrils with Zicam, & drink some Oj with your meals. OH, and at night, slap some vicks rub on your neck & wrap a scraf around your neck. Don't forget to wear SOCKS slap some vicks on your feet too. ;)
Oh!!! and use that humidifier while you sleep. If the girls let you sit in the restroom with a hot shower the steam will make you sweat and I promise you will feel brand new!
hahahh sorry long post! ha

My younger daughter's first words were "uh oh" too. I guess that's what happens when you have an older toddler running around. LOL. As for your cold, I'm a big Airborne fan. Hope you feel better.
