i can't even believe it, but we have pictures on the wall,
curtains on the windows,
books on the shelves...
this may sound silly to some of you, but my last five homes or so haven't had all of these things. before we moved here i decided i wanted to make this house a home.
i wanted curtains on the windows, dang it!!!
and two weeks after moving in, we have these things. i couldn't be more grateful to my fabulous mama for all of the help she's given us the past two weeks. thank you doesn't even begin to cover it.
the upstairs is more or less done as well. :) i will photograph and share that portion of the house later this week, as well as our office/scrap room (which is downstairs, but NOT done at this point!).
look at what i saw this morning before jimmy left for work. how sweet is this? nothing better than a daddy that is HOME. we are so grateful to see him each morning and to see his smiling face walk in the door at night. so grateful.
that bottom photo is my favorite. HA!
okay. on to the house photos! sorry if you are tired of seeing house stuff, but i'm just really excited that we got this done!
i won't be sharing a photo of the dining room, b/c we unpacked my china/milkglass/cake pedestals yesterday and the table looks like an estate sale. heee! i'll share that later, along with the scrap room.
den:
wood piece: purchased from jenni bowlin at vintagefest
h collection: gifts, paris market, honey's home+style, hobby lobby, flea markets
clock: flea market

six: gift from my mother
books: vintage
photo holder (holding ephemera): anthropologie...many many years ago :)
china cabinet, tv stand (trunk)- nadeau furniture with soul
basket- target
curtains- target (LOVE these burlap panels)
burlap lamp shades: home goods
couch pillows: home goods
Entry Area/Sitting Area:

so there you have it! i want to note that all of this is mostly things i've found over the years at flea markets, supplemented with affordable pieces from target, home goods, and even walmart.
i love pottery barn, restoration hardware, etc...but it's not feasible for us to have a home completely furnished from those stores. as much as i'd LOVE that!! so i try to mimic the look of these stores using items that are more affordable.
this afternoon i hope to get the milk glass, etc. into the red china cabinet.
i can't believe i'm 35 weeks pregnant this week. where does the time GO???
i hope you are all having a beautiful, blessed monday. i'll be back soon!!

Your house looks so cosy and welcoming and ready to welcome new things! I'm so excited for you. MY sister is expecting twins in January. x

I don't know how you do it...it looks fabulous! You are a moving pro for sure! LOVE those Home Goods pillows!
Posted by: Carrie | 11/08/2010 at 03:20 PM
as H used to say- "pitty, pitty". I <3 seeing how you mix and remix these things with each move. (While it does stink that you've moved so much over the last two years.)
My favorite was of the hall table with tray and J's MacArthur award. I love how you make it all so beautiful without making it overly girly, either. That hall table is a perfect example of it!
Hugs to ya, sweetness! Only a few more weeks! Or are we in to week, singular? So cool that the twins have gone this long. But I bet your back and body are begging for mercy. :)
Posted by: Joy | 11/08/2010 at 03:23 PM
Everything looks so beautiful...and you did get that Red China cabinet! Looks fabulous!

I really love your house. It is so beautiful and inviting. I would loveto live there :-)
Posted by: Veronica | 11/08/2010 at 03:41 PM
You did a really great job, I think it is sooo beautiful. This is what our home looked liked before little ones and I am very confident it will return once they grow a bit. But for now our main decor is toys (cute, colorful, love the mess of them toys) scattered throughout by my four babes.I do not think we have the same amount of space as you but I would NEVER guess you had children walking into your home.
Posted by: Anna | 11/08/2010 at 04:14 PM
Looks awesomely perfect. Thank you for sharing all your creativity and hard work! So happy about 35 weeks too-grow babies grow!
Posted by: Nicole | 11/08/2010 at 04:19 PM
The house looks GREAT!! Did you always collect "6's" or has that been just since you found out you were expecting twins? Just wondering because that would be so ironic if you always collected them! How exciting that your babies could be born right now and possibly have NO NICU stay!! I had 2 completely healthy 36 weekers :)
Posted by: Kaila | 11/08/2010 at 04:41 PM
Your house looks beautiful! I love seeing the peek into the rooms. I can't wait to see the office/scrap space :) I'm glad all is going well for you...keep those babies right where they are!!!

Hello again Stephanie
I just wanted to say when I reread my comment I detected a lot of snark and I wanted to let you know it comes from my own green monster and insecurities. You just seem so put together and I apologize for trying to make you feel any less than great. Your HOME is beautiful.

It all looks awesome Steph, you totally put me to shame...I've been here 10 months and I still have not gotten anything up on the walls except the one shelf that my dad put up for me about a month or so ago. My problem is I have so much stuff I could put on it but I can never decide what to put together. I need help!!!! Can you send your Mom up here - could I borrow her for a bit...I promise, I'll send her back before you give birth!! hee hee!!!

Looking forward to seeing those beautiful babies, but glad that they are still growing inside for as long as possible. Great work on the house, can't wait to see the rest of it.

Hey Random question? Did you get those postcard pillows at home goods recently. I am in love with them and have looked for similar items before. I am hoping they are a recent find. Thanks!
Posted by: alissaC | 11/09/2010 at 01:42 AM
Wow! Gorgeous! I LOVE the picture of their feet at the tea table. That's breakfast at our house as well. Mine doesn't wear a uniform but he was previously convinced that he was the only man in the world subjected to the midget table that early in the day. :)
OK, love those burlap curtains! I checked Target's website but no luck finding them. Boo...

The breakfast photo looks like it could be a commercial.
Your home is beautiful - so warm & HOMEy.

Wow! Beautiful, warm and inviting home! How wonderful for you to get settled at this stage of your pregnancy...when that nesting urge kicks in! Yay for your moms help! And it's so awesome that those babies are this far along! Everything is coming together for you and your family!
By the way, what significance is the number six? Because you will be a family of six?
Posted by: Kathy Martin | 11/09/2010 at 06:39 AM
yes, family of six.
Posted by: Stephanie Howell | 11/09/2010 at 06:41 AM
Your home is beautiful!! I love taking a look I see at PB and making it work with things from Target, Home Goods, Walmart...which is more in our price range right now. ;) I still get a chuckle that you and I have the same branch/tree lamp!!!! :D Mine is in my Entry too!
Posted by: Michelle Unruh | 11/09/2010 at 07:05 AM
Your home is so sweet!!! I love it! And yae you...isn't that the red cabinet that you wanted??? Its gorgeous! I showed my husband that, and told him I needed one of those as well! :)
Rest and keep your feet up! Take a deep breath about the "bigs". Its amazing how your heart just grows with each precious life you hold. You are an awesome momma, and your beautiful girls know how much they are adored.

Your house looks like a home indeed. I can't believe you're 35 wks preggy w/twins, and you accomplished that. Looks great. I've been in my house 5 years [moved in 5 years ago 9 mos preggy] and everything looks pretty much the same. How pathetic am I? LOL!
