happy sunday y'all!
for scrappy sunday this week i thought i'd focus on my scrap room and some of the ways i have things organized.
i have to apologize for the cruddy pics...but my camera still isn't working. so grainy iphone pics it is!
lots of you asked to see photos. it's not possible to take a photo of the room overall...it's very small with double doors. it's the office type room downstairs.
the closest i can get is taking photos of each part and then talking about them.
First up is this wall.
I use an old gum rack (from a convenience store I'm sure) to store my larger punches.
Above the rack is a vintage bible rack from a church pew. I rotate layouts for display here:
Next to the rack is a vintage flour tin that I store my thickers in. It's the perfect size!
A dish drying rack holds more punches:
Along this wall is where I actually do my scrapbooking.
One of my mother's wonderful friends (hi nancy!!!) gave me this AMAZING sideboard type piece of furniture. and i still can't believe my luck...it's the PERFECT height for scrapbooking, not to mention it's darling.
The big knobs are perfect for holding SC crop bags filled with current projects or kits.
I store my albums underneath...I don't have a bookshelf in a family area of my home, so they'll have to live here for now. They are at a height that the girls can get them out and leaf through them, and i love this.
hobnail glass cups hold tools, scissors, etc...a floral frog holds pens, and a three-tier basket is for wooden stamps, stamp pads, and acrylic blocks:
Vintage sewing machine drawers hold adhesives, rhinestones. On top of the drawers are muffin tins that hold buttons and tiny embellishments, and a small vintage tin holds washi tape:
I like to use my milklass collection to house small odds and ends. Labels, small embellishments, etc.
I just hung this 7gypsies receipt holder on the wall and i LOVE it here. It holds photos, inspiration pieces, etc:
In the corner by the table is a small art corner for the girls. The drawers hold paint, brushes, letter stickers, papers, pom poms, sequins, magazines for collages, markers, etc.
They like to "scrapbook" with me.
On the wall across from my table is this UGLY target computer desk that I had in college. I want to paint it and repurpose it, but believe it or not I haven't gotten around to it. HA! Oh well, it works.
A book display rack holds layouts for display. I haven't put anything on these display pieces (white scale and 7Gypsies piece) but I'll get around to it eventually.
I recently bought a couple of these chalkboard wall decals and i love them. I don't remember the brand name, sorry! I write assignments on this one. There is another one in the living room that i write quotes on.
On the table is an old wooden drawer/paper holder from a paper company. my mom gave me this for my birthday one year and i love it.
In the past it has held letter stickers, but now There's not anything in it. I might use it to hold work in progress pages.
On top of the wooden piece is my stamp holder that holds my mister hueys, a floral frog collection, and a vintage chip rack that holds random embellishments.
Under the table are my 8 1/2 by 11 albums, a vertical patterned paper holder, and a bunch of Iris 12x12 scrapbooking cases. These hold cardstock, design team pattern papers, SC stamps, and several are empty waiting for projects.
In the corner is my dress form (i pin pretty prima flowers on it, it's a great place to display/store flowers and pretty stick pins).
Also in the corner is turning greeting card display. that i bought at a store in waco that was liquidating its merchandise. I put bulky punches here as well as random letterpress cards i buy.
On the floor is an old basket (i believe it was a gym type basket that held small balls). This is where I put all of my JBS product.
Last but not least is my computer desk,
and my favorite way to display layouts...an old crib bed spring (or whatever the heck that thing is called).
Whew!! so there you have it. nothing fancy, but it works for me!! I'm so glad to have a room at all!
Again, I apologize for the grody (grody? what am i...13??) grainy, yellow pics...but it's that or nothing. hehe.
Have a beautiful Sunday!
xxo

Love your flea market chic look! IF I scrapbooked, I'd want a room just like yours! BTW, I say grody all time. My kids have started to say it. Along with the word, "Lame," which would NEVER describe you!!!

i love all the vintage storage - like the index drawers and gum rack etc.
my room has no set, fluid theme and is more modern with a mish mash of no matchy-matchy storage. I have a few delightful storage pieces but not as lush as yours. id love a thoroughly vintage craft room and yours is lovely x

thanks for sharing your space! I love the character each piece holds, so lovely! I'm sure your creativity really flows in such a great area :) Happy Sunday xoxo

the crib bed spring... SUCH a good idea!!!! maybe instead of trashing madelyns whole crib in a week, i'll have to make use of the bed spring!! what a lovely space you have, steph!

lovely craft room- thanks so much for the tour, sometimes....you'll laugh at me for saying this but... sometimes I think that the way that people organise their belongings provides huge insight into how people organise their minds. I really enjoyed seeing all that vintage storage goodness!

Thanks for sharing your scrap room. I love all your vintage storage ideas - and that crib bed spring is brilliant!!
I always wondered how to spell 'grody' - haven't used that word in a long time but I think it's ready for a comeback :)

Ha! I used to have a tin just like the one that holds your washi tape. My mom brought it back from Mexico when I was little. It held my make up for years! Lost it somewhere along the way. Thank you so much for a peak into your creative space. Lots of good ideas in there! Have a great day!

Loved the tour of your space! It's beautiful. I was wondering what brand of albums you use. I was eyeing (sp?) them in the picture and thought they looked so pretty with the bright colors lined up all organized :)

Thanks for sharing about your albums. I also have a question about them. Do you do albums for each child or just a family album and everything goes in one??? I can't imagine keeping up with albums for 4 kids!
Posted by: [email protected] | 01/23/2011 at 10:15 AM
No I dont do albums for each kiddo. Im actually completely disorganized right now and there is no rhyme or reason to them!!!

Love your space! Love that you include a scrap space for your girls!
Posted by: Sonya R | 01/23/2011 at 10:40 AM
Stephanie I just LOVE your room!!! It is so eclectic and vintage. I love how you have so creatively repurposed so many things and the crib spring is amazing!! My "studio" is mostly the furniture that nobody else in the house wanted anymore and I love that there is still a good use for it. I am guilty of buying some storage baskets and plastic button holders etc. :( Sometimes the scrappy rooms profiled are so custom made and excessive that it makes me wonder about this passion of ours. YOU are a breath of fresh air!!!! :)

I just love how you used antique items for your storage, simply darlin!!! And, with all that you have going on, I am amazed you are this organized. Hats off to you and thanks so much for sharing. The iphone pics are just fine!! Hi to the bigs and the littles.

I LOVE seeing other people's creative spaces so thanks for sharing. Right now I am in the middle (although it's going to be a lengthy process) of changing my craft room to bright and kawaii themed to mostly vintage with mostly thrift store finds. It's a lot of fun to find things at thrift stores for dirt cheap and then repurpose them for crafty things :D
Are the American crafts scrapbooks bigger than 12by12?
Posted by: Kristy | 01/23/2011 at 11:20 AM
I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty jealous of your room! Mine is just a temporary room, and honestly we won't put anything up on the walls in it (it will be a babies room eventually - like in a couple years). Then my room will be exactly the way I want it to be when our basement is completed!!
Posted by: Julie Keller | 01/23/2011 at 11:22 AM
Your blog is beautiful!
Posted by: Tracey | 01/23/2011 at 11:23 AM

I'm sorry if you've reviewed or talked about this before but how are you finding Jenni Bowlin ink pads? I've seen them around and I feel like buying some just for the packaging. lol. TFS, your style is crackers.

love seeing your scraproom!!! you have such a great touch for fun/vintage-y decorating. love all the layout display pieces you have. it's nice to revisit them before they go into albums! PS envious of that big stack of JB inks ;) have a nice evening!

In the second pic- the big punches in the dentyne row...can you tell me what you use them for? I bought one last year but have yet to figure out what to do with it. Do you journal on the paper after you cut it? Or layer those behind things, or..?? The size for me just seems awkward, but I bet I just don't know what it is really for. When I noticed you had several of those I figured you must find them more useful than I do:)
Posted by: patti | 01/23/2011 at 05:24 PM
Ha!!! I actually never use them...I just hold on to them for no apparent reason. Hehe!

especially love the vintage "real" feel to it. i use hobnail milkglass to store things in my scraproom, and have a little flower frog collection too. i think you were the one that turned me on to flower frogs when you bought one back in Texas at the Flea Market i think.
thanks for sharing!

I love all the repurposed beautiful vintage storage you have. What an awesome idea to use that crib spring. I have a crib that I don't have the heart to part with yet (my youngest just turned 8), because all 3 of my kids used it, and I guess I'm just way too sentimental.
Thanks for sharing pics of your creative space!

Stephanie,
You are so sweet to take the time to show and describe your room and storage items. It's fun to see and get ideas. I especially love your vintage flour tin. Thanks for posting this! Have a super day! :)
Posted by: Amy Scalze | 01/24/2011 at 08:03 AM
stephanie- okay, thanks, now I feel better:) I have tried to use that punch a kajillion times and wasted so much paper in the process. I keep hanging on to it thinking some day I'll kick myself for getting rid of it when I see someone else use it successfully!
Posted by: patti | 01/24/2011 at 10:52 AM
Thanks for showing us your scrapbook room! My favorite thing is seeing all of your completed albums! I have lots and lots of completed scrapbooks and feel bad about having too many, but I like to see that you have a lot too! I am wondering where you get all of your colorful albums? What brand are they? Mine are all black and getting a bit boring. I'm not sure you will get to read this comment, but if you do, I would LOVE to know!
Posted by: JennV | 01/24/2011 at 03:19 PM

Thank you for the scrap room inspiration. Our basement is almost finished (after a year working on it) and I am so excited to finally get my own room. Not that I'll have much time to craft, but knowing that I can leave a layout and come back to it later, without having to clean up. It will be awesome. I love the tin you put your thickers in. Now I know what to keep my eyes open for when I'm thrifting.

Love all of your ideas. You are so creative.
I saw a cool idea if you want to put a skirt or cover in front of the albums-use a shower curtain tension rod between the table legs in from and hang a curtain from it.
