she:
1.is reading.i'm so proud of her. the teacher in me has wanted to push it, but i haven't.i've just made sure she knows the letters, and their sounds...and i've been patient b/c she is so easily frustrated. the other day it finally clicked that if you put the sounds all together it=reading, and ever since she's been reading lots of words.
♥
2. is ready for kindergarten. she LOVED the orientation the other day and keeps asking if it's time! she is blessed by attending a fabulous preschool with a phenomenal teacher who loves to teach...and this has gotten her ready.
♥
3.is obsessed with tangled. amazon recommended i buy it today and i though "while i love you with all of my heart, mr. amazon, this time you are one step behind me.". harper knew the day it was coming out and we bought it as soon as WalMart opened. she's watched it at least eleventy billion times and is always singing "skip the drama stay with mama...motttthhhhher knows BEST!". hahaha
♥
4.loves the show "coming home" and watches with me regularly. last sunday, a soldier daddy surprised his boys in a treasure chest. so now she keeps asking me if her daddy is going to get in a treasure chest? ha! i haven't told her yet that the clip of j surprising her when she turned 3 is going to be on the show. i can't wait to see her face.
♥
5.is very into drawing and crafting. she's always wanting to make something.
♥
6. turns five in a few weeks. we are planning her birthday party..."may flowers". she has LOTS of input, this one may be a bit over the top since i haven't gotten to plan a party in a year. :)
she:
1. is really, truly very scared of tigers right now. that's why it made me giggle that she wanted this photo. i'm surprised she even got close to that thing! the other night, she saw a hat at the bottom of her bed and freaked out. j went to soothe her and asked what was wrong and she said she thought it was a tiger. ?!!?!? he's now told her tigers are only in afghanistan, which should make it interesting when he has to deploy. eek.
♥
2.is obsessed with the care bears for some odd reason. she is NOT into movies at all, she won't sit through one, but she sure does love the care bears. especially "twue hawat".
♥
3.LOVES her sweet little one day a week half day preschool she attends. LOVES it. she's out the door before i can even get her ready. because of that, she will be in m-f half day preschool in the fall. i would have not thought harper was ready for this at three, but sadie? was born ready.
♥
4.is a super picky eater. harper, mama+daddy eat almost anything, and lots of it. not sadie. she licks the bread, eats the cheese, and maybe nibbles at an apple. picky pickerson. but dessert? now she LOVES that. she has such a sweet tooth.
♥
5.makes me play "marry you" by bruno mars and "the cave" by mumford&sons about 9238402348 times a day. and dances her face off every time.
♥
6.loves playing "mommy" with her baby doll. her teacher tells me she is very compassionate/mothering to the other children at school. heee!
she (cate):
1. loves her bumbo
2. and sucking her hands
3. and arching her back like a maniac, she's THIS close to rolling back to front.
4. HATES tummy time
5. eats so much more than she did even last week. she beats lucy on lots of bottles!
6.only naps in the swing (as does lucy...survival mode,baby.- what in the JOSE am i going to do when they are too big??)
she (lucy):
1. makes me giggle. she always is smiling and making hilarious facial expressions. especially in the kate gosselin wig. who knew when i bought that thing that it would provide us endless entertainment?? everyone needs one of these. i mean...HAHAHAH. i'm laughing out loud right now at LC in a KG wig. brilliant.
2. spits up like nobody's business.
3. is HEAVY. or dense as j calls her. biggie smalls.
4. rarely cries. so low key.
5.loves grabbing and holding cate's hand.
6.is probably ready for solids. i'm just waiting longer with them than i did w/ the bigs. probably in a while, when they are close to 6 mos.
she: GOOD GOLLY GOSH THERE ARE A LOT OF SHES IN THIS BLOG POST!
1.is very content with where she is right now. taking care of her family, making things, loving.
♥
2.is joining weight watchers again asap. it's time to start feeling better about her body and health.
♥
3.is losing hair in CRAZY amounts.it's gross. she can't wear her hair down b/c it's so thin. she had this problem after every child, but this is double bad. having her thyroid checked soon to make sure nothing is wonky.
♥
4.got a SLICE YESTERDAY! yayayayay! she is obsessed and has cut approximately a million billion shapes and letters already. she is planning to make the girls tees this weekend by cutting fabric and making iron-ons.
♥
5.is going to look for someone to help her clean. she has the rest of it down, in a great routine...but she needs help with the house. she doesn't want her children to remember her as always cleaning. she wants them to remember more important things.
♥
6. is feeling so much more spiritually content and nourished since she attended church this past weekend for the first time in a long time. her whole family was happier after they went.
he:
1. is so damn funny. please look at this picture. i saw the "little jimmy's sign" and died laughing. i told him to pose for a photo and he did this AWESOME face and pose. HAHAHAHAH. oh my gosh. this is his "Waaah Wahhhhhhhhhhhh" face. the best.
♥
2.is way into listening to the avett brothers and arcade fire.
♥
3.watches american idol with me every week and has the best commentary ever. "if chris martin and bradley cooper had a baby with a voice like rod stewart, that would be paul."..."what? is jacob wearing lady pants?"...."that haley is very "rawr-y". i bet she's a biter!".
♥
4.is obsessed, i mean OBSESSED with getting an iPad. even more so once he figured out how awesome angry birds would be on it. and i'm still a bit bitter that he stole my iPhone and finished all the angry birds levels. WHO DOES THAT?
♥
5. has an injured knee. he hobbles around like an old man. i feel so bad for him. a lifetime of football+the infantry has been so hard on his body.
♥
6.is planning a getaway for our family before he goes overseas. we are thinking of somewhere mountainous/a lake area. beach=not fun, too much work w/ this many little ones.
have a beautiful friday and don't forget the gussy giveaway below!
xoxo
ok i love this post - i can totally relate
1 - i could fashion a birds nest with the amount of hair that is falling out of my head post baby - literally i told my husband i could collect it all and make a wig (nasty when i find it on the carpet, etc) - ew...
2 - i hear ya about the swing naps - i joke that we're gonna have to commision someone to build us a huge swaddle blanket b/c i'm convinced our baby will never be able to sleep without one and I'm already thinking about what we're gonna do when he grows out of his
3 - i wish i could hear jimmy's commentary during idol - those are good ones!
Have a great Friday - I always love your blog :)

I think you can go back and reset angry birds to play again. my hubby has beat it a couple times now and keeps going back through to get better scores-or something like that :)
I love when you do these posts! I think I may need to "lift" this idea for our family blog :) y'all have a great weekend!

Posted by: Ginny | 04/01/2011 at 09:05 AM
Best. post. ever.... I now need you to just record the two of you watching AI together. Because that would be a better show than the show itself. OMG..., "I bet she's a biter?" I think he's right because I think she has a tongue piercing based on how mumbly her singing is! ROFLMAO!
Posted by: Ally | 04/01/2011 at 09:25 AM
AHAH!! ally- hes a mess. he said other things that i um....cant write here? HA
Posted by: Stephanie Howell | 04/01/2011 at 09:26 AM
that does not surprise me! now I REALLY want that recording LOL :) Oh - it would be like that show - what's it called??? Mystery Science Theater!!! Where the robots and the guy watch some crazy B movie and make commentary the whole time - it's hilarious. You could create your own show, make millions ;-P
Posted by: Ally | 04/01/2011 at 09:32 AM
This post was so awesome! You truly have a way with words. Thank you for sharing this look into your family, I feel like I know the bigs. I love the series "Coming Home" do you know when your's will be airing? My husband and I watch the show and both of us sit with tears running down our faces. Please thank J for all that he does for our country!

Just LOVE getting to know you and your family through this blog world :) I have three boys (stairsteps exactly 2 yrs. apart)but they are in college now-but so fun to see how they matched your girls' personalities as young children...enjoy the day!

Love the updates on everybody. These are some of my favorite types of posts by you, and the comments from J are hilarious.
I'm so glad you were able to make it to church and be blessed by it. It's so easy to get busy or distracted by other "stuff" and forget what a difference being poured into by God can make in our day to day lives. I think I'm a different person when I'm regularly attending and when I'm not.
Posted by: Sarah K | 04/01/2011 at 09:47 AM
i agree. this was the first time i felt ready to try to take everyone and get out of the house in one piece. SO glad i did.
Posted by: Stephanie Howell | 04/01/2011 at 09:48 AM
Fun post! I need to do one like this for our fam, just to keep up with what's going on with everybody! LOVE the AI comments and the thought of y'all doing a Mystery Science Theater approach to it is hysterical. Y'all should TOTALLY do that! :D :D :D
Hey--if you're looking for a great getaway, Chattanooga is a fun place for kids. It's sorta got the mountain thing, but with the Aquarium, Children's Museum, Rock City, the Choo Choo, Coolidge Park....there's lots to do here and extremely kid friendly. Kind of a drive though...6 or 7 hrs. I think? 2.5 from ATL.
oh--and my girls (ages 5 and 4) are sad there won't be any more Harper videos. They've been talking fashion and accessories all week. ;)
Posted by: Deanna Misner | 04/01/2011 at 09:48 AM
the picture of jimmy is priceless. I think our first and second children are just about identical in personality. so wish you lived closer!

Have fun making shirts!!!! I buy the fat quaters in the quilting section, you will get plenty of fabric and it will all go together, much easier and faster than going through bolts of fabric.
Posted by: Joli | 04/01/2011 at 10:33 AM
I've debating whether or not to buy a Slice. Feel like "talking" me into it??

I got an ipad for Vday and it's pretty awesome! I do think they are overpriced but then again all Apple products are. That's funny about the angry birds thing because my husband once did that with a puzzle I was doing, I was so mad! haha And yes angry birds is better on the ipad :)

Hi, Hi! I'll share a tip with you....I lost an INSANE amount of hair with our various fertility treatments, and then again after the babies were born....from about 8wks old to 4 months. The BEST thing is a Biotin supplement. You can find it at any drug store, Walmart, etc., in the vitamin section, mixed in with all the alphabetical order vitamins. I took one 1000mcg pill a day, and just recently had to stop b/c my hair was growing SO fast. Seriously....my hair grows slower than anything, and this supplement did wonders. It feels thicker now than it did when I was pregnant. And my nails grow faster than I can keep them clipped. It won't stop the hair loss, but will make new growth appear ASAP!
I sooo want to find a new church home but have NO clue how to do that with two little ones. Did you take the babies to the nursery or did they sit thru the service with you? We are still trying to figure out how to get out of the house and coordinate around feedings, naps, etc. It is so hard!
Have a wonderful day!!

I love your cute little family. I have 0 kids, well, one on the way now, but anyways...I got me a fantastic cleaning lady about a year ago when business got busy and I was feeling like a crazy person trying to be mega domestic and bring home the bacon...I just have to comment that it's the best money ever spent every time because I never have to think about a toilet or mopping floors. You never EVER need an excuse or justification for getting one (even though I felt the need) and I am so excited for you to free up your life to spend time with your cute cute cute family.
Posted by: Miss Annie | 04/01/2011 at 03:53 PM

I actually just thought of this. I don't know if you have heard about it. But, it is called a "daddy doll". And, my nephew has one of my brother. He proudly brings it everywhere with him (My brother is deployed until August.) You can record voices to put in them. They are quite adorable.
And, I love coming home. + will be looking out for your little Harper's surprise.

so sorry you have people sending you nasty emails- for the love! glad that it doesn't get you down.
My daughter will be 5 in May too and she and Harper sound just alike- cracks me up every day!
I put my oldest in the swing for her naps every single day. I used to stress about it, but that was the only way she was ever gonna sleep during the day. Who cares??! It's all good :)

Wonderful post, Stephanie! I love that you have written a bit about everyone. You sound so happy and content and it shows in your photos.
It's nice in the US that the children start school later and have more play and family time. Here in Scotland children begin between 41/2 and 5 but in England it is only 4. Too early I think, to be in school all day, 5 days a week; they are just babies.
Posted by: Bessie Segal | 04/01/2011 at 07:25 PM
So love the updates! And that Kate G wig is just too funny. Stephanie, I hope I am not getting too personal here as a blog reader, but I was concerned to hear about your hair. My then 11-year-old started losing a lot of hair two years ago. I mean scary amounts. I cried when I would clean out the shower drain. We had her thyroid checked and it was nothing. Almost a year later, she was diagnosed with Celiacs. If only we had tested her for that in the beginning we would have saved her a lot of discomfort. Turns out hair loss is one of the first symptoms. Once she went gluten free, her hair grew back beautifully. I hope it's nothing but it might be worth checking out. Again, I hope I am not overstepping my bounds...I'm just a concerned blog friend.

Hey Stephanie! I have a suggestion of a great cause you could be a part of AND a chance to win an Ipad for your DH! Kill two birds with one stone and save some money! he he My sister and brother in law are trying to adopt. My sister was born without a uterus. Last night we kicked off our only big fundraiser in an effort to raise a substantial amount of money for these two sweet young people who love Jesus with all their hearts and just want to be parents o-so-bad. You can read their story here: www.ababysentfromthestars.blogspot.com and enter for a chance to win an Ipad2 or a Nook or several other great prizes. Thanks for at least considering it! (: couldn't hurt to try. Right now the odds are VERY good! The fundraiser runs for a week... Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! Danielle dnbarton at gmail dot com

o also!! loved today's post! (: ha sorry I was so preoccupied with the thought the J wanted an IPAD I totally spaced all the other things I wanted to say. 1st off LOVE the wig. That pix is hilarious! I'm dying to see how you scrap that one (: 2nd I thought that pix of J was too funny! he's a good sport! I'm sure there was more i wanted to say but now i can't remember! thanks for making me smile with those sweet pix of your girlies!

I love reading your blog! Seems we have similar senses of humor and appropriateness. If you're looking for something close for your trip-Asheville is awesome. I'm a little biased since I live here, but it's beautiful and about a 5 hour drive from Savannah. I know you're thinking, no way, not with 4 small kids, but we have 3 boys that are close together(oldest was 3 when youngest was born) and we made this trip several times when they were little. Definitely doable. Wherever you go, I hope you have a blast!

Love everything about your blog - you are so fantastic about sharing your life and inspiring lazy people like me! I so need to joing WW again too and get my body and health back again. And guess what? My hair is falling out too and I can't put that down to children either, but probably stress! It comes out in big chunks too, more so on one side than the other. Rah! Thanks so much Stephanie, you always seem so wise and cheerful and motivating and nice. Don't ever change how you are :-)

sarah, thank you SO much for the tip. im ordering it NOW.
and as for church, we just GO. i decided from the time that harper was very little i was going to go with kids, no matter where, no matter how many children.
when jimmy is gone ill go nuts if i dont have the ability to get out.
so i MAKE myself learn.
hence the reason i was at target by myself with all four girls when the babies were one month old. HA!
last sunday we kept the girls w/ us because it was bottle time. we sat in the foyer and held them/fed them and then moved in.
next time we will probably try the nursery. the GREAT thing about church is that everyone is so kind and wants to help!

i love this post- so nice to have these memories of what everyone is doing right now! Lucy in the wig and little jimmy made me laugh!!

heather! we are actually looking there!!! i went to windy gap young life camp there when i was in HS and fell in love with it. weve been looking at cabins and cottages. any suggestions?
Posted by: Stephanie Howell | 04/02/2011 at 07:27 AM
I was also going to suggest the Biotin. My hairdresser says it is a great thing to take when you are having those times of hair loss. I have a friend who changed some medication and started losing hair. He told her to start taking it. The great part is you can get it at Walmart or any place like that. It is not expensive. Try it!!!

I am convinced more and more that Sadie is really my child. Also, M really thinks that J needs an iPad. Let me tell you the amount of Angry Birds that gets played on that thing at our house.
Posted by: Kristen | 04/02/2011 at 12:24 PM
Oooohhh, my husband TOTALLY stole my IPAD and finished ALL the levels of Angry Birds on it!!! (Yes, I was the ALL CAPS-kind of mad!!!) Who DOES that, indeed? It's just wrong. I feel your pain.

Aghh! I have the same problem with my hair- hate it! Sorry for you but glad to hear it's not just me!
Totally agree with J on the whole Paul combo thing. He pegged it exactly. I do love Paul though.
Your girls are all adorable, I love reading your updates (especially since I have both boys..).

I love this so so much! You are so very blessed to have such a wonderful family. And might I add that your husband has great taste in music? Arcade Fire and Avett Brothers? LOVE!

Such a lovely post and funny too. Photo of you all on the bed just emits pure happiness. :)
Don't fret about the Angry Birds. Have you found all the Golden Eggs (that opens up new fun and quirky levels)? There's an extra golden egg awarded when you've reached 3 gold stars in every level. Just go back to each game and try to achieve those 3 stars - or at least just beat J's scores! Also, you might already have it but there's also Angry Birds Seasons (plus all the golden eggs there too) AND the new Angry Birds RIO (golden pienapples and golden bananas to find). That one is such fun and a little different as there are no pigs to kill just exotic birds to release and monkeys to kill (who are pretty funny!)
I only give it to my sons and hubby if level is driving me nuts trying to get 3 stars! Love that you post about Angry birds too! haha

me =1. almost forgot about the avett bros. 2. doesn't know what angry birds are. 3. was never able to have babies and am so jealous of you. In a good way if that makes sense! I love that you are so gracious about your life.
