Happy Thursday, everyone!
And welcome to those of you who are here for the very first time!
Today I have something super special to share with you.
When Michelle Rubin asked me to be part of the Scrapbooks Etc. Craft it Forward Blog Hop this month, I was both flattered and terrified. Everyone knows I don't "do" cards. Or shall I say i can't do cards. HA! Cards and I are not friends.
Here's the thing that made me say "yes" immediately. This month's theme is thanking military personnel, or military themed. cards for the troops.
There are so many young men and women overseas (and at home) that don't have family or much of a support system. I have been at "welcome home" ceremonies after year long deployments and seen young soldiers just standing there without anyone to hug them or thank them. Now y'all KNOW me and you know I went to hug their sweet necks...but my point is, cards for the troops are ALWAYS needed and appreciated.
Some great resources for you:
and a million more. if you take a moment to research, you'll see there are so many ways to send our men and women overseas some support and love.
I jumped at this the chance...because, clearly, this is something near and dear to my heart.
Here's the lovely inspiration card this month:
i loved this card, and having dimensions and instructions was SO great, as i have no idea how to even make cards (which i may or may not have already mentioned)!
i changed the theme to something i will send jimmy..."come home safe". on the inside, it says "come home soon, you are my heart".
supplies: papers- my mind's eye label-pink paislee bow-jenni bowlin alphabets- american crafts (safe), october afternoon (come home)
and i really truly had FUN making this. i can't wait to send it in j's father's day package!
hope you enjoyed your stop at my blog, thank you so much for coming by!
now head over to the gorgeous (i mean seriously, have you SEEN her??) erin terrell clarkson's blog for the next card!
and if you lose your way, you can always go back to the Scrapbooks Etc. blog.
have a beautiful, blessed day!
xoxo

Praying for J's safe return, must be so hard on you to have him gone, hard for the kids too, thanks for sharing your card. I love to make cards and have a bunch that are just sitting, I will check out your links for the soldiers to send cards too, a great idea!

You made a great card, silly girl! No more talk of being a card neophyte now, okay? :)

Love the card and have to ask...I follow your blog daily and have not missed a post in probably well over a year - how did I miss the fact that J is gone? You have mentioned it in passing the last couple of posts but I wasn't sure until today. Is he deployed again? For how long? I don't want to pry, so I hope I'm not overstepping the line...I would love to keep your family in my prayers especially while he is away.

yes, he is, but i cant share specifics. thanks so much for your prayers!

I think you should rethink your aversion to card making. This is fabulous, Stephanie!

Wow! Very awesome card!...
It breaks my heart to think that there are soldiers that come home from deployments and no one is there to meet them or hug them or thank them. so very sad! :(

You are going to have to change your remarks -- yes you do cards -- and very well by the looks of things. What a wonderful card to send to your husband. Praying that he will return safely to you.

such a nice card! i love those gray thicker letter, the font is great!

I love your message of "come home safe"! I had to chuckle about your aversion to cards. I'm the same way - I call myself something politically incorrect: I'm a card retard. I don't like using the "r" word, but I figure if it's in reference to myself it's OK. Also it rhymes! tee hee!

You can too make cards. Just put your feelings into it like you did on this card. These make perfect Any Hero cards to send through OWH.

Wow! I love this card!! Perfect for an Operation Write Home Anyhero card!!!

Very Nice card! I love the partiotic without being Red, White & Blue! Thanks for mentioning Operation Write Home!

Wow! I hope you change your mind about making cards 'cause this one ROCKS!
Posted by: Kathy Martin | 06/03/2011 at 06:42 AM
Gorgeous card and do concur with a previous comment that a patriotic card doesn't have to be red, white, and blue...nice change of pace.

What wonderful texture and dimension in this card! Thanks for helping to spread the word about Operation Write Home. I've been making cards for the troops through OWH since 2008 and it's been extremely rewarding.

That card is awesome! You should "do" cards more often! I know your hubby will love it! Many thanks to your family for your service to our country. Thanks too for the shout out to Operation Write Home! It's time to get that 2nd million cards going!

What a lovely card - your husband will cherish it. So heartfelt - thanks for sharing.

Hi! I think your card is fantastic! It has that retro feel I love and wow! all those neat details! I'm an Operation Write Home cardmaker and in addition to making cards for the troops to send home we make AnyHero cards with friendly notes in them for heroes who may not get much mail. A card like yours would make any hero's day. Thanks for sharing your talents!
