when in the world
did this baby
become this girl?
when did she lose all of her baby fat and when did she get these long legs...kind of awkward, like a colt?
when did she stop mispronouncing words?
when did 'ashion become fashion? fee farket become flea market? when did she stop needing me to help her get dressed?
how did kindergarten get here ALREADY?
i can't wait to see her soar. she will love school. she will walk in that door and never look back.
and i will enjoy having time to get to know the babies.
but oh how i will miss her. oh how i will long for that beautiful smile to walk out of that school door every day.
she is so much of me it makes my heart ache.
oh how she will fly.
i can't wait to see it.
xo
I feel the exact same way about my daughter. I love being with her and will be kind of sad that she's gone every day. But will be fun to continue to watch them grow into little people. Harper is gorgeous in these pics- and she looks JUST like the twins in the baby pic.

It is so hard when they start school. In PA, kindergarten is not required, so our kids, young for their grade, did not go to kindergarten, and waited until 1st grade. (The best thing about living in PA). Did you read the book ``Saving CeeCee Honeycutt``? It takes place in Savannah and was one of my favorite books! Just finished it a couple days ago. Great book!

i did! i LOVED it...actually bought it recently and im about to re-read it. i adored it.

You know what I love about this? Someday, many many years from now, Harper will read your blog and know just how you were feeling in the days leading up to her first day. What a special gift!

So very sweet!

I can relate so very much at this moment, because my oldest turns 18 tomorrow! Really??? How can that be? Because I remember vividly driving to the hospital to get my C-section and the song "Baby, Baby" by Amy Grant was playing on the radio station both arriving at and leaving the hospital. 18 years ago? No way :*(
If there was anyone who is a perfect fit for kindergarten, it is your sweet girl!

oh, I read it too....makes me want to visit Savannah sometime. Great book! I've recommended it to all of my reading friends.

Oh boy Steph, I can totally relate, in fact this post almost brought me to tears, my oldest (a daughter too) is headed off to Kindergarten this year too! Time flies doesn't it?

Wow...the twins look a lot like her when she was itty bitty? cute!
Posted by: dani | 08/12/2011 at 10:40 PM
LoL. "Kind of awkward like a colt" = humble brag. I wouldn't worry about her, seems like she will be set.

I feel like I have "watched" Harper grown up here on your blog. I too can't believe that sweet girl is going to start Kindergarten. I can't wait to hear the stories though...you know you have to tell us all of them...right?? ;)
Enjoy these days with her before school starts.

hello Stephanie, it seems that we have he same questions, time flies and little babies becomes little (big) girls so quickly...my little Lise is 5 years old (6 in November) and she is growing every days!
Your little girl is beautiful and i am sure she 'll love school, just another excuse to grow up faster ;).

You made my eyes misty two posts in a row! This made me think of my "little girls" who are 16 (a jr. in high school, driving, now!) and 12.75 (two teenage girls in a month??) Where does the time go? She will love school-you know she's ready... they are so busy learning and having fun... while theire mommas miss them. :)

I can't believe how much she and Lucy look alike! She is a beautiful little girl now. Yes, I still remember dropping my first off and how hard it was! But his delight and enthusiasm when he got back home made it all feel better.
You're an awesome mama!!

My last "baby" starts high school next week! You're beautiful little girl will amaze you! She looks ready! Mom will miss her, but think of all she will have to share with you about her days! They still talk to you about thier days at this age :) My son talks with me still, but not the same as when he was small.
And your last post was so heartfelt. It is OK for you to be glad J is safe and still feel heartache for the other families whose son, husband, father will not come home. I thank and appreciate J's and all the other service men and women who sacrafice so much, and sometimes everything, for us. ((hugs)) And yes we complain some times about the little things when others have so much more of a burden. We need reminders like this!

Oh she is just a doll!!! I know what you mean and how you feel. My sweet girl is going into her last year of jr. high! My beautiful boy is home one more year... then to kindergarten. Oldest just moved into her own apt from campus housing. Gosh how time flies.. wish it would slow down.

I recall start reading you blog when your girl were young.
Your girl is your baby as always!
Hugs.

My "baby" is about to start kindergarten too. Sniff, sniff... He will be amazing. I'm just not ready for him to be so grown up.

she is darling and sending best wishes for her kindergarten year! we decided to send Jonah to prep-k (instead of starting K this year) but he is going full day to the Christian school that he will attend for K too... so i have similar feelings!! It's hard yet thrilling watching them grow.

She's so, so sweet! It's so hard to let them go and the first couple of months will be an adjustment, for both of you...but after you get used to it being a bit quieter around the house, you'll like it. ha! Mine are going into 6th and 1st this year. Can't wait to have my quiet time again. I love them to death, but it's so hard keeping them entertained all the time! :)

somehow, the first born is always so much part of us right? my eldest dd is also the most "me" and it is so painful sometimes to watch her grow up! she is both my good and bad, in full technicolor detail!! :)
Harper is gorgeous, she will definitely grow up to be a heartbreaker!
