Thank for sharing that challenge! As sad as it is that she's gone, it's incredibly inspiring.

Oh how I miss Aleida. Stephanie, I still have her phone number on my contact list. I know, seems odd but I simply can not delete her. So funny, so wise and so very loving. Dang.

These beautiful layouts really capture the spirit of your girls! Thanks for sharing them!

What a sad story. It seems so easy, live like there is no tomorrow, why is it I always tend to forget, in spite of all the reminders along the way. It seems like a good resolution, though. I'll give it my best try.

All I can say is wow. Your post made me realize more than ever that I am always the one behind he camera and I have hardly any pictures of myself with my kids. thank you so much for sharing and giving me an idea on how to change that!

I'm glad you mentioned the challenge....she's often on my heart, and her family in my prayers, as well. I repinned the challenge after I followed your link. I'm not on FB anymore (haven't been for a couple months, now...just hate it there), but occasionally use Pinterest. So, again, thank you, and btw..your work is sooo beautiful. I adore that page of Sadie. ADORE. I really enjoyed your scrapbook posts lately. I don't do that much anymore, as I'm just plugging away at writing novels, lol. It always is delightful to see your inspiration, though. And one more BTW...I felt sooo bad for you and your Christmas Eve happening. I can understand. And I think you handled it especially well. HUGS.

Every time I see that picture of Harper smiling upwards with the leaves in the air I get the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song (♫You're gonna make it after all♫) and this picture in my head http://hookedonhouses.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/mary-tyler-moore-opening-credits.jpg
She is beyond precious.

I couldn't agree with Aleida more about pictures! Such an important thing to do no matter who you are! I think a side benefit might be that our daughters might feel more at ease with themselves getting pictures taken in whatever state they might be in also. No hiding from the camera or shunning it. If Mom's OK with getting her picture taken then everyone should be OK.

Wow Stephanie, I haven't heard this story before and when I read it it really hit home as I have just been doing a 2012 year in review album and I could only find 3 photos of myself for the whole year! I'm with you for this resolution.

Totally blown away by Aleida's story and the challenge to document ourselves with our children. I am reminded once again how quickly this could all be taken away so I am taking the challenge and thank you for sharing Aleida's story. Wow, amazing, loss for words, blown away, overcome and more words that can describe how moved I am right now. Thank you and good luck to all who are walking along side me in this journey of love.

Disappointed -you miss her? You never mentioned her before she was DEAD!
Posted by: Mary | 01/03/2013 at 08:25 PM
Mary- Im not sure what I did to provoke such an angry response. I knew Aleida through Studio Calico and spoke to her there, through blogging, and through emails as well. This isnt a contest on who knew her better, I never claimed to be her best friend. I simply thought she was funny as hell and I liked her a lot. And yes, I miss her.
I hope you have a good week, did you enjoy your trip to Savannah?

I am so grateful you mentioned this blog post today. Just yesterday I made myself take pictures with my babies even though I looked horrible...I thought how sad it is that I'm rarely in pictures with them since I'm always behind the camera. And it's so true...I never think how horrible my mom looked in any pictures of her with or without me and my brothers but always how beautiful she looks. Thank you so much for reminding me of this and for sharing this beautiful person with us.

Thank you for sharing this story (and I admire your grace ;0 ). I have shared this with my daughters, one of whom is expecting her first baby next month and the other is planning to start her family next year. My grandmother died when Mom was 15 and I have never seen a photo of them together, which must be very sad for my mother. I have several decades of my life when there are hardly any photos of me. Does that change anything that was going on then? No, all it does it make it very hard to describe those times now and extremely hard to document them. I, too, shall be making this a mission this year - with both my children and my soon-to-arrive grandson.

I'm not usually a New Year's Resolution maker, but I am definitely adopting that one. I've been feeling convicted recently that I'm rarely in photos at all. Not that I'm trying to avoid being in them, I'm just usually the photographer. I need to teach my hubby to use the camera and get in some pics. If anything happened to me now, my children wouldn't remember much of me as I am right now because there simply isn't much photo documentation. Thank you for the kick in the pants that I needed. :o)

WOW Mary, that's just nasty.
I've never mentioned all the people I know that have passed (for whatever reason) on my blog, does that mean I'm not permitted to miss them, or mention them? Ever? New blogging rule. Don't talk about anything or anyone that you miss unless you have somehow publically mentioned them prior.

Thanks so much for the link to the challenge Stephanie. Loving your layouts as always!

My apologies to Stephianie. I was not trying to be ugly or nasty. I love Stephanie and she knows it. I follow a lot of blogs but only hers is delivered to my in box. I am just sad because Alieda seems to have been another beautiful soul like Stephanie. She had a message that really resonated with me - I just wish I had heard it while she was alve. Peace

I'm glad you posted about Aleida. I didn't know her, but had friends that did. Nice reminder that we are important to our kids. I LOVE looking at photos of my Mom when I was a child. Thanks for that! Going to do it today! ;)
