*note- this post is not sponsored by stitch fix and i am not affiliated with them in any way. i just really love this company and this idea.**
I have a new obsession.
And I honestly believe that this is a GENIUS idea for those of us too busy (or surrounded by small children) to shop.
As much fun as it is frantically flying through a store, grabbing pieces, and then speed-trying them on whilst sweating...
Stitch Fix is much more fun.
Here's a little blurb from the website:
Stitch Fix is a personal styling service. We get your style and size preferences, then send you a package of stylish goodies to try on at home. No two Fixes are alike. Each one is hand–picked just for you.
And here's how it works.
You sign up (using the invitation link shared below) and wait to be accepted. It took a bit for me to be accepted, but I can assure you it it totally worth the wait.
Next you fill out a style profile online. You answer tons of questions...from size to taste. There are collections that you look at and share your opinion:
Once I was accepted I set up a Stitch Fix date. You can get these as often as you wish, but I get a box once a month.
Each fix includes five items (clothing or accessories based on what you need/want) that are hand-picked just for you. You pay a $20 "styling fee" for each box, but if you buy any items it serves as a credit towards the item(s).
Once you receive the items, you have three days to decide what you want to keep. Everything else you send back in a prepaid envelope.
Here's why this idea rocks. I had time to try on everything slowly. And scrutinize it. And combine the pieces with things i already owned.
I wasn't stressed. I wasn't sweating. I wasn't having to keep two 2 year olds from ripping down the dressing room curtain and exposing me to the entire store.
Not that that's ever happened...
Anywho.
Each item comes with a card attached. The card describes the item and shows you two ways to style it. BRILLIANT. Just what this frazzled mommy needs.
This is the invoice that came in my box. I love the little note at the top.
Let's discuss the price point. Most of these items cost a little bit more than I'm used to spending. But I've recently had a little fashion come to Jesus talk with myself.
I'm at the point that I'm tired of my things falling apart. I'm going for quality over quantity. I finally learned that spending a little more is worth it.
Yes, I can spend $70 for two items at Old Navy...but those pieces are not holding up. They are fading and unraveling...
and it's a waste of money.
I love that you get a 25%discount if you buy all of the items. I doubt I'll ever do this...but still.
I didn't even try on the cowlneck top. That was the only complete miss in my box. It was not my style, I didn't like the color, I didn't like the fabric.
Here's what else I got in my fix (excuse the lack of makeup and the bad lighting).
I loved the star scarf. Soft, big,and the stars are too cute.
I kept it.
I can't even tell you how gorgeous the blue top was. But this was a month that I just couldn't get more than one item. I have so many blue tops that I couldn't justify another.
But it was GORGEOUS.
Here are the other 2 items I tried on. Again- sorry for the blurry images. Next month I think I'll use a real camera. :)
The colorblock sweater was lovely. The sleeves are grey and I loved the black/white. But the sleeves were way too short.
After this fix I actually went back and changed my sizes and noted to the stylist that my arms were long.
The brown owl top...well let's just say I almost didn't try it on. I might have laughed.
I did try it on though, and although I still didn't love it (I'm just not really a brown person or a birds-on-my-clothes person)...I have to say I'm glad I tried it. The peasant type fit was very flattering.
So that's my review of my first Stitch Fix. I have high hopes for next month, as I tweaked sizes, color choices, and added some thoughts for my stylist.
I will share how month 2 goes!

Have a beautiful and blessed Wednesday!!

Stephanie! I needed a giggle this morning and even though we've never spoken on the phone or in person I could hear your voice in your "I'm just not really a brown person or a birds-on-my-clothes person" statement. I also feel like maybe it's because I could see myself saying the exact same thing but it made my day! I love this idea!! Especially because I live in the armpit of the south now. Thanks for sharing :)

This looks awesome...makes me wish there was a similar service in South Africa.

so glad to read your review. i've been thinking about stitch fix for the last few months and just might give it a try! i love the scarf (my collection just keeps growing!) and love knowing that they take your locale into consideration for what they send you!
is there any length of commitment associated with the service?

Just signed up! This seems like the PERFECT thing for me! Just had my fourth child + looking for a new wardrope all together :) Thanks so much for sharing!

omg this is SUCH a great idea-- thanks so much for sharing!

What a great idea! I hope you waited for your 'ashion advisor to get home from school before trying your goodies on. Or are you afraid that she will want to join, too? LOL
Posted by: diana | 02/20/2013 at 12:54 PM
This looks like a great idea! Having 3 kids I *rarely* get out to buy clothes for myself...which definitely shows in the sweats look I'm rockin' this morning :) While I definitely couldn't afford to buy the whole box it would still be nice to see what I like, don't like, match it with clothes I already have. So if you decide you don't want anything in the box, does that 20 dollars go toward the next month? Or have you lost that all together? I would love to try this!

Haha, you're so cute. Your commentary about the owls kills me!
Posted by: Leigh Erin | 02/20/2013 at 01:44 PM
so funny to see your box compared to one of mine. and i so thought the owl shirt was a perfect pick for you. not sure why? it was super flattering on you though!

I tried this once before & didn't have much luck. I just can't spend $50 on a top. Can't do it. It was fun to try but I sent everything back.

Stephanie, if you sign up, can you tell them when you're ready to receive packages. I ask because I am pregnant and would not want to receive anything now, but don't want to forget about this site in the future.

I've been hearing so much about this! Going now to look further into it.... :)

Thank you SO much for sharing, I've never heard of this but it sounds great! I'm a bargain shopper, but have found that when I left my mil pick out a complete outfit for me, I was much happier and it flattered me, even though it cost what three-four outfits would normally cost me. Will definitely check it out, thanks!

LOOOVE THIS! I, too, have been moving toward spending a little bit more $$ on my clothes. I figure the closer I get to FORTY, the less I can get away with $8 t-shirts. LOL!! I'm beyond bummed, though, that the largest size they carry is Large. Boooooo for us full figure girls.

Thanks so much for this info - I too am a mother of 4 kids and need a wardrobe makeover, but I HATE shopping, plus I live in the middle of nowhere Wyoming and the closest mall is over 2 hours away, and like I said, I HATE clothes shopping ;-) plus if I have to drive there, it's just not happening. Anyway, I just signed up so I am looking forward to trying this out!
Posted by: Jena | 02/20/2013 at 08:18 PM
You look beautiful without makeup!
Posted by: Kay | 02/20/2013 at 08:40 PM
OMG!!! I am SO excited to try this! I hate going to the mall! I love clothes but I have no time to drive to the mall and shop! I usually do one big, rushed trip and go to the 2 stores that I KNOW will have pants that are long enough for me. Then I > over spend, buying too many pieces that end up just sitting in my closet because after I got them home I realized they don't go with anything else in my closet! I can't wait to try this!!! Thanks for the tip, my friend!

This idea is genius!! I love clothes, but don't like shopping. Having someone do it for me?? Yes, please. I've already filled out a profile!
Posted by: MilliD | 02/21/2013 at 09:17 AM
I loved the idea also, but unfortunatly they do not provide services if you are "plus-sized." Just thought I would put that out there for any of your readers. I got an email from them saying thanks, but we have nothing to fit you. :(
Posted by: jeny | 02/21/2013 at 09:46 AM
im sorry, jeny. i had no idea. i was just sharing a service that i had a good experience with. hopefully they will change things in the future.
Posted by: Stephanie Howell | 02/21/2013 at 09:47 AM
Not even going to lie, I totally snorted when I read "I'm just not really a brown person or a birds-on-my-clothes person"
Love this idea and may need to file it away for sometime in the future!
Oh, and I hope things went well with J yesterday!

How cute are you? I would have SO snatched up that colorblock sweater even though Q will probably say I have 5 of them already. I'm afraid to get the box because I am afraid I have ZERO self discipline and won't send anything back!

Me too! And in Canada too -- but since we're moving to South Africa later this year, I'm seconding your motion. :)

That makes me sad. There are a lot of women who hate clothes shopping, and us "plus-sized" people are particularly prone to that....
Posted by: northcarmen | 02/21/2013 at 07:11 PM
I loved this idea, but when I went on the site they say they don't stock XL sizes....which I found super duper annoying. It's way harder to fit clothes on chubby girls than skinny girls, so I think this would be even more helpful if they expanded they're market place. If they decide to I'm totally down tho, looks like fun!
Posted by: Cassandra | 02/21/2013 at 08:36 PM
Love this! Just what I need, just signed up & awaiting my invite. Thank you for the referral!

So this is brilliant. As a mom of four who rarely leaves the house and sometimes doesn't change out of her pajamas it sounds even more amazing. I love the idea of having cute, trendy clothes without having to go find them and try them on with children or in a very small amount of time and I totally agree with spending a little extra to have something that lasts.

Yay! So glad you loved it....I hafta say that blue top was MADE for you! And I of course love the stars scarf! :)

Great review, looks like fun too. I personally think you look great in brown and the bird shirt looks the nicest based on the photos you posted. Good luck with your future fixes!
