I have a new layout on the Paper Party blog and I wanted to share it here, too!
I've seen a lot of talk of anchors lately. Whether people like them or not...whether they ar overplayed or not.
Here's a confession. I don't care if they are overplayed. I don't care if doilies, butterflies, feathers, or anything else is over played. No one is going to know what the trends were when they look at my albums one day.
Hell, no one might want my albums and they might end up in a box in a musty basement (but with four girls, I'm hoping otherwise).
The point is...no one is going to look at my albums when I'm gone and say "oh, anchors were so overplayed in 2013." or "this page doesn't have anything to do with xxx and it has an xxx on it".
I'm a prep at heart. I love anchors. I love bows. I love stripes. :)
So I use them. B/c they make me happy.
On this page, they actually fit into the theme, too. Which is a plus.
I have long said that Jimmy is my anchor. I'm the social butterfly. I do more "flitting". I fret more.
He is my solid, steady, dependable, strong anchor.
And I thank God for that every day.
Hence this page:
Supplies: patterned paper:Dear Lizzy(stripe, red behind main photo, 4x6 chevron card), Glitz (You Anchor Me paper layer);doily:michaels (silver,i used the back side); anchor washi tape:Glitz ; anchor garland:Glitz;mint green color shine (i misted the back side of the chevron card):Heidi Swapp;all stickers and chipboard accents:Dear Lizzy;anchor tag:Dear Lizzy;mini doilies:Greatest View;enamel dots:MME;journaling tag:Chic Tags;heart chipboard frame:Crate Paper;doily envelope overlapping right side of main photo- Martha Stewart
A few things I did that I wanted to talk about...
I had these die cut cards from Dear Lizzy:
They are really cute but I had a hard time making one work with the colors in my layout.
So I flipped it over and misted it with Mint Green Color Shine. Note...rub it in with your fingers to give it a textured look.
Another thing I did was make the washi more like "streamers". I wanted the ends to have a "flowing" look, similar to waves/water...so I only stuck the tape down in certain spots. Glitz tapes are easy to do this with as they are more papery.
I put a bit of baby powder on the spots I didn't want to stick and I reinforced the parts I did want to stick (with glue dots).
So there you have it. Another layout. Two in a week. What the what?
Oh- and guess what? My Tooth Fairy receipt was on Apartment Therapy. SQUEEE!
Okay. That's it. Y'all have a beautiful day!
xoxo

love. Love. LOVE this layout! and you are currently at NAVAL War College, you can use as many anchors as possible in honor of your time with the Navy. It is a happy accident that our second year of marriage is filled with a trend of anchors :) I'm slowly filling up my Navy Wife "closet" with the nautical trend and I love it! xxoo

I love it! the dark blues with the softness of the doily are a great combo...I have three kids, only one girl and she's the only one that looks at my scrapbooks...so I am sure your girls will be looking for many years to come :)

Wonderful layout! I love how it is mostly neutrals, makes the masked/spritzed piece and the gold anchors really pop, and what a great way to make those cards work for you!

Great layout and pics of the two of you. Love the anchors and the tiny doilies (so cute!) And don't sell yourself short, girl -- you have done a lot of "anchoring" of the ship when your beloved was away. The young ladies are very lucky to have both you.

Thank you so much for the technique ideas! I also love your use of the anchor paper with the theme of your story. I also love anchors and I have used them for beachy-vacation pages but not much else. Great idea!

Oh girl I just love you. I love your independent attitude!! You are a woman after my own heart!! I feel exactly like you...who cares if something is "in" or "out" as long as IIIIII/YOU love it, who cares!! I applaude you for being so young and knowing your mind and heart this early in your years. I'm 62 and didn't figure all this out until I was in my 50's, so good for you. You are waaaaay ahead of the game.
I love your posts, your little family and your Jimmy. You are such a blessing to us all in sharing your life with us all.
Can't wait till you get to Italy and hear about your trip and your new exciting life abroad. Lucky Duck!!
