Okay. Let me start off by explaining something.
I've talked about this before but I MUST reiterate so that you don't think I have vile taste.
An older lady lived here before we purchased this house.
She had a fond affinity for these things in no particular order:
wood paneling, industrial carpet, country blue paint, and lemon yellow formica.
We have redone the front part of the house and the bedrooms.
The scraproom/playroom just didn't make the cut.
I had grand plans for it when J left, but alas...getting through the year in one recognizable piece
trumped doing renovations.
This room is ...um...ODD.
It used to be an outside porch that the kitchen/breakfast room looked out onto.
They added it on as an extra room to the house.
So the kitchen and breakfast room have open windows now that look out onto the scrap/play room kind of like this:
yes, i have the ever ubiquitous "create" sign. and proud of it. teehee. i got it years ago and still like it.
This is the empty bay window that looks from the breakfast room to the play room. We have filled half of the window with my old crib spring, i've been hunting for another to hang on the left side to no avail.
When we sell we will paint the paneling white and rip up the nasty carpet and stain the concrete.
One one half of the room is this:
in this photo, directly to the left of my computer
are french doors that lead out to the yard.
on the other side of the room is this:
this room has been just perfect for the time we have spent here.
i don't even notice the fugly carpeting and paneling anymore.
i notice that i can work and watch the girls play outside.
that i can cook supper and look through the empty random "windows"
and watch them play.
when i have people to visit i'm kind of embarrassed by the "odd-ness" of this room, but for the most part it fits its purpose perfectly.
Stepping into the room:
old gum rack from gas station holds crepe paper, floral frogs, big punches,
and pens.
basket to the side holds small and border punches.
directly by this shelf is these, they hold scraps, liquid adhesives, cardstock, odds and ends. i'll probably get rid of this soon. the only thing i use in these drawers is the cardstock. hmm, maybe there will be a big stamp giveaway soon?? these are YEARS old and unused for the most part.
on the wall are wire baskets and a plate holder that displays layouts:
on window sill, old sewing drawer filled with mini albums, odds and ends
previous tenant left a large desk that we couldn't move.
i thought i hated it, but it turned out to be perfect for my scrappy stuff.
paper company drawers hold my alphabet stickers, paints, journaling tags and rhinestones:
on top of drawers are my mists, an old stamp holder, and my stick pins.
next to drawers are a vintage chip rack holding odds and ends i don't want to forget about:
an old chair from the flea market is the perfect scrapping chair. sturdy and comfy.
glasses for pens and often used tools, a milk glass dish for left over alphas:
assorted milk glass holds labels and small embellishments that i reach for often,
a three tier basket holds stamps and ink pads:
more milkglass holds chipboard embellishments, an old muffin tin holds tiny embellies:
on the floor against wall behind desk,
a vintage milk crate holds albums:
wire baskets holding patterned paper:
under desk,
iris boxes hold products for design work,
studio calico stamps,
and left over pieces of SC kits:
basket holds adhesives:
computer desk:
check out the largest modem ever known to man that time warner gave us.
niiiiice.
facing kitchen in front of bay windows,
a desk holds lots of goodies.
old dish rack with layouts,
apothecary jars holding buttons and trims,
sewing machine drawers and basket with fabric,
vintage suitcases and locker basket underneath:
to left of desk is card rack
and old tv tray showcasing current lo of choice, and a scale holding trims:
above tv tray is crib spring:
WHEW! So there you have it.
Half dream room, half dump.
But as Tim Gunn says, I've made it work.
I don't have a "studio" or "atelier" or anything of the sort.
But I don't want one. I want a room that feels like me and this is almost that room. ;)
Sorry this was so long, I just went out of control a bit!
Hee! if you have any questions leave them in the comments and I'll answer them.
Love to you all-
have a beautiful, blessed Tuesday!
